Sailmakers on track for half a million shoppers over a busy December
Sailmakers Shopping Centre is on track for its busiest month of the year with over half a million shoppers expected by the time shops close on New Year’s Eve.
A busy pre-Christmas carried over into Boxing Day at the mall in Ipswich where retailers reported brisk business as the traditional sales kicked-in.
Tatiana Gecmane, manager of Yours, said: “We’ve had a good December especially considering these are challenging times but Sailmaker4s is a good place for us.
“Our Christmas jumpers have done very well and so has party wear and of course coats and boots so it has been a busy time for us.”
Steve Harker, at Ryman, took a break from helping staff to say: “We’re keeping going strongly and our range of Christmas gifts has done really well, things for children like remote-controlled drones and cars in particular.”
Mike Sorhaindo, Manager of Sailmakers Shopping Centre, said: “Boxing Day is always a very important day in the retail calendar and there has been a steady trade throughout the day with people looking for bargains.
“Pandora has been particularly busy again and always seem to do well at this time of year while Yours and Ryman have had plenty of activity and so have HMV and Poundland.
“We have had about 400,000 visitors to the centre during December and would expect to be well over the 500,000 mark by the New Year.
“The Centre has been a lovely environment and it has been a busy run-up to Christmas with the carol singers and the craft markets helping create a lovely atmosphere and we expect this to continue as we run through the sales period.”
